A New Start: From Farm Pup to Family Dog
When BooBoo was adopted, Vesna and Jay knew they’d be bringing home a large, powerful dog with strong guardian instincts. As a Great Pyrenees and Alabai mix, BooBoo took to protecting his family and territory with a watchful eye. However, this led to some challenges—particularly his tendency to bark and show distrust toward guests. Vesna and Jay wanted to help BooBoo feel secure around new people, knowing he didn’t always need to be on high alert. They reached out to LimitLess Dog Training, and we were thrilled to work with BooBoo and unlock his potential as a calm, confident companion.
Customizing BooBoo’s Training to Suit His Personality and Background
Our training at LimitLess Dog Training is built around each dog’s unique needs. For BooBoo, our plan focused on reducing his barking, building his trust in new people, and creating a structured way to greet guests calmly. Here’s how we worked with BooBoo to turn his protectiveness into calm confidence:
1. Teaching the ‘Place’ Command to Manage Barking and Distrust
One of the most effective techniques for BooBoo was learning the “place” command, which gave him a specific spot to go to when guests arrived. For a dog as protective as BooBoo, this command provided him a job to focus on, helping him feel secure and reducing his need to bark at unfamiliar people.
2. Building Calmness for Greetings
At 120 pounds, BooBoo’s size, combined with his intensity, made calm greetings crucial. Using structured exercises, we taught BooBoo to welcome visitors without barking or acting standoffish, creating a peaceful atmosphere for Vesna’s family and their guests. This change allowed Vesna and Jay to feel more relaxed and confident, knowing BooBoo would greet guests calmly.
3. Creating Positive Socialization Experiences in Temecula Wine Country
Living in the Temecula Wine Country, BooBoo regularly encounters other dogs and people. By incorporating socialization exercises into BooBoo’s training, we helped him focus and stay calm even with distractions around him. Now, BooBoo can enjoy his surroundings peacefully, making walks and outings a more enjoyable experience for both him and Vesna.
BooBoo’s Transformation: A New Chapter for Him and His Family
Vesna captured BooBoo’s progress perfectly in her Review on Google:
Ryan with LimitLess Dog Training was amazing with our 18-month-old puppy BooBoo. He trained BooBoo and us a few commands that definitely make a difference with other dogs and people greeting when they come to visit (he used to bark a lot). With Ryan’s guidance and effort, we now have a new dog. Thank you, Ryan, for everything from us & from BooBoo, we highly recommend your training to anybody in need to improve their dog’s behavior!” – Vesna M.
Understanding BooBoo’s Protective Instincts
As a Great Pyrenees and Alabai mix, BooBoo’s guardian instincts are deeply rooted in his breed traits. Great Pyrenees are known for their loyalty and protectiveness, often used to guard livestock, while Alabais (Central Asian Shepherds) are known for their independence and territorial nature. Our training plan respected BooBoo’s natural instincts while teaching him to remain calm and composed around strangers.
Through practical obedience and confidence-building exercises, we created a structure that allowed BooBoo to fulfill his protective role without feeling the need to bark excessively or distrust visitors. With this balanced approach, we helped BooBoo feel secure in his new environment, knowing he was safe and part of a loving family.
Empowering Vesna and Jay to Lead with Confidence
One of our goals at LimitLess Dog Training is to empower pet parents with the knowledge and skills to continue their dog’s training journey long after our sessions are over. Vesna and Jay gained hands-on experience with the “place” command and learned how to guide BooBoo through greetings and social situations. They now feel confident handling BooBoo around visitors and taking him for walks in the lively surroundings of Temecula’s wine country.
Creating a Lifestyle, Not Just Obedience
Our training goes beyond teaching basic commands; it’s about creating a lifestyle that works for both the dog and their family. Vesna and Jay’s experience with BooBoo shows how the right guidance can create lasting change, leading to a more relaxed, enjoyable life for everyone involved. With BooBoo’s training in place, Vesna and Jay now have a dog who can adapt to new situations confidently.
